Microneedling & Nanoneedling

What are they and how do they work?

Microneedling is a natural, minimally invasive technique designed to rejuvenate the skin by stimulating its own repair processes. At its core, the concept is simple: create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, and the body responds by producing new collagen and fresh skin cells.

To understand why this works, it helps to know a bit about skin structure. The skin has two primary layers we focus on: the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the outermost layer, and its main job is protection—it keeps things out. Beneath it lies the dermis, where collagen production occurs and where meaningful structural changes in the skin happen.

Under normal conditions, most topical products remain on the surface of the epidermis because it is doing its job of KEEPING THINGS OUT. Microneedling changes that. By creating thousands of tiny microchannels, it temporarily allows active ingredients to pass through the epidermis and reach the dermis—where they can actually make a difference.

Research shows that microneedling can increase product absorption by up to 300%. When paired with high-quality, hydrophilic serums—like the ones we use at Fl•oh—absorption can increase even further, up to 3000%!, delivering active ingredients deep into the skin where they are effective.

Even on its own, microneedling is powerful. The micro-injuries signal the dermis to ramp up collagen production, leading to firmer, smoother skin. Over time, this helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and scars.

In our treatments, we use a modern, professional-grade microneedling device equipped with 16 ultra-fine needles that create up to 18,000 microchannels per minute. This precise, controlled process maximizes collagen stimulation while enhancing the delivery of customized topical serums.

Microneedling can also improve a range of skin concerns, including acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and even conditions like vitiligo. The result is healthier, more resilient skin—achieved by working with your body’s natural healing abilities.

Nanoneedling is similar to microneedling but the needles are only 110 nm long so they don’t penetrate past the outermost layer (stratum corneum) of the outmost layer (epidermis) of the skin. It is ideal for very sensitive areas where skin is much thinner such as around the eyes and the lips where microneedling cannot be done. Nanoneedling increases product absorption by 97%.

If you are concerned about fine lines & wrinkles, swelling, or sagging skin, then nanoneedling is for you. If your skin care concerns include deeper wrinkles, hyperpigmentation or scars, then microneedling is the best choice.
